Lighting in a baby's room – how to ensure the right atmosphere?

One of the key elements in the design of a baby's room is the lighting. The light should be gentle with sensitive eyes in mind, but at the same time bright enough to allow parents to perform everyday tasks such as changing or feeding. How to choose the right lamps for a baby's room? Read the article to find out.

Lighting in a baby's room – how to ensure the right atmosphere? - 1

Main light in the baby's room
Light plays an important role in a baby's development and comfort - it influences their biological rhythm. In order to create the perfect atmosphere, it is advisable to use several types of lighting that fulfil different functions.
A ceiling lamp should provide a soft, diffused, bright light that evenly illuminates the entire space. Avoid harsh and very bright colours, which can irritate a baby's eyes and cause unnecessary stimulation. The best choice would be light bulbs with a warm colour temperature of approximately 2700-3200 K. An important element is also the possibility to change the colour and intensity of the light, in order to adjust the lighting smoothly to the current conditions and time of day.
The Kanlux ARVOS LED ceiling-mounted light fitting features the option to change the colour and intensity using a remote control. It also has a night mode that makes it easier to fall asleep. In case you want to go one step further, the modern Kanlux PLAVE LED light with built-in fan will be an excellent choice. It also has a function of changing the colour of the light and its intensity, a night mode, and in addition it has a fan with a five-stage regulation of airflow power. The fan has two modes of operation - supply and exhaust, and in either mode it ensures adequate air circulation in the room (the supply mode will lower the room temperature through forced air movement).

Spot lighting in the baby's room
The colour of light is of key importance for a baby's room. Warm, soft light promotes calmness and relaxation. Cold, white light (above 4000 K) can have a stimulating effect and should therefore be avoided in a baby's room, especially in the evenings.
Spot lighting in the changing, feeding or sleeping area is particularly useful at night when we do not want to switch on the main light. At night, during feeding, it is advisable to use a soft light that does not stimulate the baby or interrupt the parents' rest.
Kanlux BOLA LED is a solution that will work well next to the nursing chair. It is a plug-in lamp with a twilight sensor; it can be set to stay on, stay off or automatically switch on when the room gets dark. It emits a soft light of 4 lumens, with a warm colour. Importantly for new parents, it also has two USB ports (A and C). Thanks to this solution, it can act as a charger - for a phone, a bottle warmer or a digital babysitter.

Looking for something more flexible? In such a case, a wall lamp with a rubber arm will be the perfect solution. Kanlux TONIL LED II is a wall mounted fitting that can be arranged into any shape. Mount it over a chair, changing table or cot to direct the light where you need it.
It will also be convenient to use a lamp that you can move freely and illuminate the desired area. It doesn't have to be a standard table lamp! Kanlux CALIZA LED is a wall mounted fitting whose base is fixed on a wall, a cabinet or a chest of drawers. Interestingly, the lighting part of the lamp is attached to the handle with a magnet. You can detach it using one hand and take it with you anywhere without using force and without any unnecessary hooks. Changing the intensity and colour of the light is also a useful feature.

Lighting in the baby's room and safety

In a baby's room, the issue of safety always comes first. The same applies to lighting. Here are some tips on how to ensure that the light is not only functional but also safe:

● Avoid using floor lamps that can easily be knocked over. If you decide on such a lamp, make sure it is stable and its power cord is placed in such a way that you won't trip over it, especially at night.

● When choosing lamps with energy-saving LED bulbs, pay attention to the manufacturer. Kanlux IQ-LED A60 bulbs will prove to be a great choice. They not only have an eye-friendly colour temperature and high luminous efficacy, but also ensure photobiological safety. LEDs produced by an unknown manufacturer bought incidentally in a grocery shop at a "very favourable price" can bring irreparable damage to one's eyesight.

● Bedside lamps should be placed out of reach of babies' hands, but still close enough to be functional for parents.

In order to ensure the safety of parents, it is worth opting for skirting lights with a motion sensor. Such lighting provides a gentle light that is unlikely to wake a toddler. Kanlux IRS is a battery-powered lamp. It has a motion and twilight sensor and its big advantage is that it can be mounted in places with no electrical wiring.

Let's also remember about the importance of natural light. The windows in the baby's room should be adequately shaded during the day to avoid overheating the room, but at the same time let in enough light to make the room bright and pleasant.

Lighting in the baby's room is an element that not only influences the comfort of the baby, but also helps parents in their daily chores. It is important to choose the right colour and intensity of light, paying attention to safety and functionality. Properly planned lighting consisting of several light sources will create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation, tranquillity and peaceful sleep, which is crucial for a baby in the first months of their life.
