How to illuminate the attic, basement and storage spaces?

Interior design is not limited to the living room and bedroom. More and more people are beginning to appreciate the potential of other home spaces, such as attics, basements and storage spaces. One of the key elements that can significantly affect their functionality is proper lighting.

The attic: downlights and ceiling light fittings 
The attic is often characterised by sloping walls and an unusual spatial layout. In order to highlight its charm, it is worth reaching for lighting that will accentuate the room and create a cosy atmosphere. Light sources distributed along the walls can evenly illuminate the entire space, eliminating dark corners. Kanlux ALOR are downlights that you can install in any configuration. You can opt for a black or white version with a matte finish. You will also find it useful to have a main light such as Kanlux VARSO LED, a ceiling light fitting with a milky diffuser that evenly disperses the light in a 180-degree angle, which is important in low rooms. In addition, this ceiling light fitting is only 5 cm high so it will not visually lower the room.

 

The basement: spotlights and mirror surfaces
The basement is traditionally associated with a storage area. To make it more welcoming, it is important to focus on choosing good lighting. High-quality spotlights can effectively dispel the gloomy atmosphere, while mirror surfaces will help to reflect light, creating the impression of a larger space. A bright ceiling lamp with bright light will be a great choice as the main lighting. And remember that luminaires with higher moisture resistance (IP44 or higher) and higher impact resistance (IK08 or higher) may be important in a basement. In lower and often cluttered (by ourselves) spaces, it can happen that we accidentally hit a lamp. 
This is also where ceiling light fittings come to the aid. Kanlux DABA PRO will be perfect. You can choose a version with a sensor (26W) and two housing colors – white and black. Kanlux DABA PRO means IP65 tightness and high resistance to mechanical damage IK10, as well as additional protection of the luminaire against opening. The quality of the ceiling light fitting is confirmed by a 5-year warranty. 
If your basement is a large and spacious room, it's a good idea to use the Kanlux MEBA LED IP54 lamp. This will give you plenty of light. You can choose between two models with a length of 600mm and 1200mm. Kanlux MEBA LED IP54 means high luminous efficiency, service life of 50,000h and a 5-year warranty. An additional advantage of these luminaires is the IP54 tightness level and two cable grommets that allow for pass-through connection. The quick connector makes it easier to install the luminaire, and the lampshade and sides of the luminaire made of polycarbonate and the body made of steel sheet are further advantages of these luminaires.

 

Choosing the right lighting for non-standard spaces is the key to success. Attics and basements are usually small spaces that are not aesthetically pleasing – in most cases they function as storage spaces. In addition to design considerations, the first step is to create a lighting plan and think about what you expect from it.

Storage spaces: power rails

Storage spaces, usually regarded as practical but less aesthetic places, can surprise you when you illuminate them properly. Narrow shelves or nooks and crannies will become the perfect place to place lighting to highlight hidden treasures. Kanlux ACORD ATL1 are lamps that you can adapt to your individual needs. Two wattages (18W and 30W) and the choice of color temperature and lighting angle makes it easy adjust them to your preferences – illuminating an entire area or a specific spot. These lamps are placed on the Kanlux TEAR rail, so they can be moved freely and another lamp can be added if you feel that there is not enough light. You can decide for yourself how many lamps and what length of the power rail you will use – of course, the size of the room will also influence the decision. Kanlux TEAR power rails are a complete system of rails and connectors, which can be adjusted to your needs in each room. The biggest advantage of the system is that it can be expanded as your home changes.

SMART technology: control the light wherever you are

In any unusual space, it is worth considering SMART technology. You can use it to remotely control light intensity, create a lighting schedule or change colors. This is particularly useful in storage spaces, lofts or heavily lit attics, as such a solution allows you to flexibly adjust the lighting to changing needs.

Information about processing personal data (GDPR)

The Controller of your personal data is Kanlux S.A. with its registered office in Radzionków (41-922) at ul. Objazdowa 1-3, (“the Controller”).

1. Contact details of the Controller: ado@kanlux.pl.
2. Personal data are processed for the purpose of fulfilling the Controllers legitimate interest in the execution of the agreement, asserting claims related to the business activity conducted and - in the case of voluntarily granted consent - conducting direct marketing of its own products or services
3. Personal data will be stored in the IT environment, which means that data may also be temporarily stored and processed, e.g. in back-up copies, as part of tests of IT systems or procedures aimed at detecting irregularities or protecting against fraud or attacks, in order to ensure the security and proper functioning of IT systems.
4. The recipients of the data will be entities supporting the Controller in the scope of IT services, transport services and subsidiaries and affiliates of Kanlux S.A. and its permanent commercial representatives having their registered offices in the territory of a Member State of the European Union, as well as lawyers and auditors.
5. The Controller does not intend to transfer the data to a third country or an international organisation.
6. Personal data will be kept for the duration of the agreement, and after its termination - for the period required for the performance of accounting or tax duties (for their duration) and the period necessary for the expiration or limitation of any claims arising from the agreement, and in the case of consent to the processing of personal data for marketing purposes - until the withdrawal of consent.
7. You have the right to:
a) Demand access to data;
b) Demand that your data be rectified if they have been incorrectly saved or if they have changed;
c) Demand the removal of data if the legal basis for their processing no longer applies;
d) Demand the limitation of the processing if, in your opinion, they are incorrect (for a period enabling the Controller to check the accuracy of the data) or pending the processing of your objection, or if the Controller no longer needs the personal data but you need them in order to establish, pursue or defend your claims;
e) Raise objections to the processing of personal data if they are no longer necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the Controller;
f) File a complaint with the supervisory authority if you believe that the processing of personal data violates the law.;
8. The provision of data related to the implementation of the agreement is voluntary but necessary for the purpose of the implementation of the agreement. Providing data for marketing purposes is voluntary.
9. No automated decisions, including through profiling, are taken based on your personal data.
10. Once the processing of your personal data for the original purpose has been completed, the data will not be processed for any other purpose.
