Living room lighting - what to consider

How to light a living room? What lamps should you choose for a room that, regardless of its size, fulfills several different functions throughout the day? Which types of fixtures will accommodate the changing needs of the household members? Read about what you need to bear in mind when planning your living room lighting.

Living room lighting - what to consider - 1

Lamps in the living room, the representative part of the house, fulfill both functional and decorative functions. That's why for this room you should:

- opt for fixtures with diverse functions, which can be adjusted to current needs,

- ensure that the intensity, colour and direction of light beams can be adjusted,

- equip one of the circuits with a motion detector which will operate only during the night to reduce power consumption,

- consider using twilight sensors so that lights will only turn on when it is dark,

- consider installing timers in the lamps. They will provide illumination at selected times during the day.

Of course, you should think about these solutions already at the installation and lighting planning stage.

Dining room pendant lamps
Until recently, eye-catching chandeliers were the typical lighting element of the living room. They still have their fans, but it is worth remembering that their size should be carefully matched to the size of the room, so as not to make it seem visually smaller. It is good to opt for small pendant lamps with minimalistic design, such as Kanlux GALOBA C lamps. They are perfect for illuminating the dining room. All fixtures from the Kanlux GALOBA series are easy to keep clean and to change their light sources thanks to detachable lampshades. The maximum height of a light source for these fixtures is 55 mm. The best light sources for these fixtures would be Kanlux SMART (S GU10) or Kanlux iQ-LED LIFE. It is worth mentioning that iQ-LED LIFE with the "less blue" effect is a solution that allows you to take care of your eye comfort and well-being, both while working and reading a fascinating book for a long time, but also during all other daily activities. They emit light in the full spectrum of colours and therefore have the same effect as natural daylight.

Living room ceiling lamps
Living room lighting also includes fixtures adjacent to the ceiling. Kanlux STOBI ES, a line of modern fixtures with exchangeable light sources, will be perfect for a small living room. They are made of aluminium and offer the possibility of fully adjusting the direction of the light beam. The matt, sanded surface of the housing and simple design make Kanlux STOBI ES look impressive in almost every interior. An additional advantage are the light bulbs you can choose for them. Kanlux ES-111 LED bulbs illuminate the room in a beautiful way, creating a decorative effect and emitting more light thanks to their larger than typical housing.

Table lamps
Their main advantage is that they can be moved to wherever they are needed. Depending on the light source used, they emit diffused or focused light, which makes them virtually universal, just like Kanlux DAIBO LED. They allow you to illuminate both your reading chair and the sofa on which you watch a film. Simple design, universal colours (white or black) and a movable lampshade allowing to direct the light beam to any place are their greatest advantages.

Wall lamps
Wall lamps, which are currently making a comeback, allow you to create an evening relaxation area in the living room or highlight a decorative element on the wall. That's why, when choosing wall-mounted fixtures for the living room, it is certainly worth paying attention to whether they offer the possibility of changing the direction of light like Kanlux SEMPRA. Available in white and silver or black and silver, this series of spotlights offers you great flexibility in arranging your living room lighting. Importantly, the lamps from this series can be used to create impressive sets of fixtures, ranging from one to four light points.

Finally, it is worth remembering how important it is to choose the right light bulbs for the living room. We spend most of our time there, so we should ensure the best possible lighting for our eyes. It is best to ensure a high colour rendering index (Ra>90), which translates into colour perception by the human eye, and a colour temperature as close as possible to daylight.
Kanlux iQ-LED LIFE with full spectrum of colours and the LESS BLUE effect will provide you with comfortable conditions for studying, working and relaxing.
For lamps with E27 cap you can choose the Kanlux XLED MIRROR bulbs which, thanks to their mirror finish, emit light towards their base so that it does not dazzle but fills the whole room instead.
You can also opt for the traditional Kanlux iQ-LED bulbs with GU10 cap, which ensure full comfort of use and safety, confirmed by the TÜV Rheinland certificate.
However, the most important thing is that the lighting is functional for you. Keep this in mind right from the planning or renovation stage.
