Kanlux iQ-LED LIFE - natural light at your fingertips
Natural sunlight makes our surroundings more comfortable. This kind of light is the healthiest light for our body because it has a good effect on our mood, it stimulates us and helps us to fight bad moods. Still, we hardly ever consider how artificial light affects us.

The sun - why do we need it so much?
Sunlight is essential for our bodies to produce vitamin D, and has a huge impact on the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone that is thought to regulate our diurnal rhythm. On days when our moods are not the best, and we are tired, it is sometimes enough to open the windows in the house to improve our mood. The sun is abundant in spring and summer, but we still spend a large part of the day in artificial light - at work, in shops, clinics and offices. In autumn and winter, when sunlight is scarce, we use artificial light around the clock. So what's the difference between artificial light and sunlight? Above all "the amount of blue light", of which there is less in sunlight.

Effects of blue light on our body
Blue light is part of light with both sunlight and artificial light. Nonetheless, artificial light contains much more blue light than sunlight. Energy-efficient lighting, displays of digital devices such as smartphones, LCD/LED monitors, tablets or TVs emit more of this light. This light itself is a natural phenomenon. It is what keeps you awake during the day, but prolonged exposure to it can lead to fatigue, disrupt sleep patterns, and lead to retinal damage. All this is due to the close proximity of blue light to the ultraviolet spectrum, and ultraviolet is harmful to human cells. It particularly affects the eyes and can consequently cause vision impairment. This process is gradual, which is why it is so difficult to notice it. The initial symptoms include seeing dark circles in front of the eyes, which make it difficult to see up close. Think about it, after working in front of a computer, or a long session of scrolling through social media, do you move objects a little further away from your eyes to see them better? Perhaps you suffer from dry, burning or watery eyes or a headache?
Sleepless, bright nights
Also, sleep problems can be caused by blue light. For the brain, the presence of blue light is a signal telling it to act. It is a factor that interferes with the secretion of melatonin, the hormone responsible for falling asleep and regenerating the body. When you're lying in bed scrolling through social media or reading a book on your tablet, unfortunately, you're not calming down at all - quite the opposite. You send an information to your body that it needs to be alert and you stimulate it into action.
Is there anything we can do to defend ourselves against the harmful effects of blue light, or can we limit it somehow?
Limit blue light
Some smartphone manufacturers have included a blue light filter in their models. This allows the user to activate the filter at any time to reduce the blue light emission. The same method has also been used in newer models of TVs and monitors. When these devices are first switched on, they often ask whether to turn on "LESS BLUE", or "reading mode". The new devices also allow you to set a night mode schedule. According to our preferences, the smartphone or TV screen will automatically change its colour temperature to emit less blue light.
A new, very popular trend are glasses with a blue light filtering effect are now available. We are not just talking about corrective spectacles but dioptric-free glasses that filter out up to 35% of blue light. They are perceived to be a hit when it comes to working in front of a computer.
The final, most proven method is to turn off all monitors and screens one hour before bedtime so as not to give the brain signals for activity - then we are sure to have some restful sleep.

When working with a computer during the day, follow the 20-20-20 rule. According to this rule, your eyes should take a 20-second break from the monitor every 20 minutes and look at an object 20 metres away from you. Your eyes will relax, as will your brain, and you will be able to react better.
